Bondi Rescue Star And Surfer Clint Kimmins Jail Nightmare For Glassing A Man, Gold Coast
Former Bondi Rescue star Clint Kimmins, who was just 22 when he was imprisoned for defending himself in a confrontation with a drug dealer, has opened up about the harrowing experiences he faced behind bars.
Starting out as a promising junior surfer on the Gold Coast, despite a turbulent upbringing in a household marked by alcoholism and abuse, Kimmins dropped out of school in the tenth year. Securing sponsorship from renowned Australian surf brand Rip Curl, he earned junior titles and aspired to join the World Surfing League.
His aspirations were shattered during a scuffle at a local surf club’s 21st birthday party in 2004 when he used a glass bottle in self-defense, inadvertently causing injury to another individual.
While the man survived, Kimmins was later found guilty of unlawful wounding. He was subsequently sentenced to eighteen months in a maximum-security prison, with six months of it being non-parole.
Recalling the early days of his imprisonment on the ‘good humans’ podcast, Kimmins recounted his first week spent in a holding cell under the court, describing the bleak conditions, including the chilling darkness, and the remnants of blood on the walls.

Upon his transfer to the maximum-security facility, he underwent medical assessments and psychological evaluations, was cautioned about the realities of prison life by a fellow inmate, and faced several challenges in adapting to the brutal environment.
Despite the constraints of the prison, Kimmins utilized his time constructively, engaging in physical exercise and immersing himself in books. He eventually discovered a passion for triathlons, leading him to participate in international competitions after his release.
Following his time in prison, Kimmins experienced a phase of apprehension, avoiding confrontational situations and public spaces. However, he persevered, eventually securing roles in Iron Man competitions and finding success in surfing events, even making a notable appearance on the reality series Bondi Rescue before his departure due to Covid-related regulations.
Returning to his roots on the Gold Coast, Kimmins continues to compete in various sporting endeavors, embodying a resilient spirit in the face of adversity.
