Although Barrett initially signed Ferguson as a solo artist, he was concurrently assembling a trio known as The Three Degrees, comprising Fayette Pinkney, Shirley Porter, and Linda Turner. Janet Harmon, Helen Scott, and Fayette Pinkney joined in 1966, with Scott expressing her intention to leave the group due to marriage.
Ferguson had previously filled in for an ailing member, and upon the request of Pinkney and Harmon, she became a regular member. Harmon departed in 1967, making way for Valerie Holiday.
The release of the album “A Toast of Love” in 1976, intended for the Far East market, gained global distribution with the title song. Following Pinkney’s departure that year, she was succeeded by former member Helen Scott. The album “Standing Up for Love” was released in 1977.
