How To View Reshares on Instagram
Sometimes, you may notice an unexpected surge in new followers and engagement on your Instagram account, and you might wonder what caused this change. This curiosity might lead you to want to understand the reach of your Instagram account and know who finds your posts interesting.
Resharing Instagram posts by taking screenshots and posting them directly from your camera roll is not ethical, as the original poster won’t be notified or credited. However, Instagram offers an ethical option for resharing posts using the in-app post-sharing feature. This allows viewers to access the original post and visit the poster’s page directly by tapping on the reshared post.
As an individual or professional Instagram user, post reshares can be a valuable metric to gauge the alignment of your posts with your audience’s interests. When someone reshares your post, it indicates that the content holds significant value to them beyond just viewing it.

Currently, the only way to see who has shared your Instagram posts on their stories is by using a business or creator account. These types of accounts provide access to valuable traffic and engagement insights.
With the insights available, you can gain valuable information about who is engaging with your Instagram posts, Reels, and stories. If you don’t have a business or creator account, you can easily switch your regular account to one of these options, and it can be undone if needed.
Keep in mind that creator and business accounts cannot be set to private. Once you’ve set up your Instagram account as a creator or business account, follow these simple steps to view who reshared your posts to their Instagram stories:
Step #1: Sign In to Your Instagram Account
After signing into your account, click on your profile at the bottom right corner, and then select the post for which you want to view the reshare activity.
Step #2: Click “View Insights” on Your Instagram Post.
Directly below your post, you’ll find a “View Insights” bar. Click on it, and if your post has been reshared, the number of people who reshared it will be displayed right beneath the paper airplane icon.
Step #3: Return to the Photo and Click on The Three Dots
In the top right corner of the post, you will notice three dots (…). Tap on them, and a popup list will appear. Then select the “View Story Reshares” option (only visible if your post has been reshared at least once).
How To Add Instagram Feed to Squarespace
Immediately after tapping on “View Story Reshares,” you will be redirected to a page titled “Current Public Reshares.” Here, you can view the total number of people who have shared your post to their stories.
If you wish to see the specific users who have shared your post on their stories, simply click on the “Reshared Story” section within the grid. This action will directly take you to the user’s story. From there, you can view the user’s username and visit their account.
Keep in mind that these results are only available for 24 hours from the time the post was reshared. In other words, they will disappear when the sharer’s Instagram story expires.
If no one shares your post within 24 hours of posting, you won’t find the “View Story Reshares” option when you tap on the three vertical dots.
Summary
To recap, here’s a simple step-by-step guide to see the total number of people who have shared your post at any given time:
- Click on the “View Insights” option on the specific post, and take note of the number displayed under the share icon.
Keep in mind that if your post is being reshared frequently, Instagram may automatically boost its visibility and show it to a larger audience.
