As mentioned earlier, Thierry crossed paths with his future wife, Karla, during her trial for the murders of three innocent girls. Sylvie, Homolka’s criminal lawyer and Thierry’s sister, represented her in court, and the two quickly developed a romantic connection.
Despite Karla, also known as The Witch of Ontario, being incarcerated for 12 years, she was released in 2005, at which point Thierry and she officially tied the knot. Subsequently, Thierry faced scrutiny from many who questioned his decision to marry a notorious killer.
In 2016, La Presse interviewed Thierry outside his home, where he addressed concerns raised by neighbors about living in proximity to someone with a criminal past.
Is Karla Homolka a “Mom” These Days?

Karla Homolka, Boardelais’ Wife: Everything You Need to Know
Karla Homolka was born on May 4, 1970, in Ontario, Canada. Her father, Karel Homolka, worked as a traveling salesman, and her mother, Dorothy Seger, was employed at a geriatric clinic.
Karla is the eldest daughter, with younger sisters named Logan Valentini and Tammy. Tragically, Tammy fell victim to her own sister’s actions and was murdered in 1990.
Homolka’s upbringing was marked by instability, with her father being an alcoholic who frequently verbally abused his wife and daughters. The household witnessed regular conflicts, creating a challenging environment for survival and a sense of safety.
Consequently, Karla grappled with depressive episodes throughout high school. However, as she matured, the notorious killer managed to partially overcome these challenges.
The ‘Ken and Barbie Serial Killers’ Story
The label “Ken and Barbie Serial Killers” is bestowed upon Karla Homolka and her former literal partner in crime, Paul Bernardo. Bernardo, also known as “The Scarborough Rapist” or “The Schoolgirl Killer,” encountered Homolka when she was 17, and they commenced dating in 1990.
Paul was far from the typical caring boyfriend. Exerting complete control over Karla’s life, he would make derogatory comments about her physique, clothing choices, and even her dietary preferences.
Homolka Testified Against Bernardo And Was Sentenced To A Lesser Sentence
At the age of 52, Homolka testified against her ex-husband, Paul Bernardo, in 1993. Before this testimony, she had sought complete immunity in return for her cooperation and truthfulness but was denied.
Instead, she was presented with two alternatives: to testify against her partner and receive a 12-year sentence, or confront charges of manslaughter and rape. Consequently, she opted for the former and served a 12-year term in Kingston, Ontario’s Prison for Women.
